During WWII, the Slovak resistance movement included Roma partisans. The great-granddaughter of one of them decided to capture her ancestor’s story on film.

The story of Vera Lacková’s great-grandfather – partisan Ján Lacko – has been told in her family for several generations. Roma are usually described only as Holocaust victims. Did some of them really fight against the Nazis with weapon in hand? Vera launches her own investigation, armed with a camera rather than a rifle, determined to wipe away the layer of forgetfulness from this chapter of history and reveal it to the public in the form of a film. She encounters many barriers along the way, disinterest on the part of the relevant institutions, and deeply rooted prejudices against her ethnic group. Her touching and entertaining film shows not only how difficult but also how important it is to remember the deeds of forgotten Roma heroes.
